The Traveling Unconscious: Telehealth in Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy

Facilitated by Sara Hamilton, PhD and Tara Chivukula, LCSW

1.5 CEs

Telehealth therapy. Perhaps the perfect manifestation of our disembodied culture. There is an immediacy, an intimacy and an urgency, but how does it compare to being in the room? How does it affect the frame? Unlike a traditional therapy session, the client/therapy dyad is positioned in front of & attending to a camera. How do we work as pictures in tiny boxes?

Sara Hamilton, PsyD and Tara Chivukula, LCSW will facilitate a conversation about psychoanalysis and telehealth. Tara provides telehealth services and Sara is undergoing an analysis with a telehealth format. They will share their experiences from each side of the therapeutic relationship using telehealth technology

Learning Objectives:

1. Participants will be able to explore the limitations or challenges of telemental health therapy

2. Participants will be able to identify the benefits of telemental health in deepening therapeutic engagement
